Taming Temper Tantrums Essay Tantrums are a normal part of growing up. Toddlers arent bad when they are having a tantrum, they are just acting their age. Almost all children between the ages of one and three have a few temper tantrums. This just means they have finally gotten a sense of their own individuality. A temper tantrum every now and then doesnt mean anything; there are bound to be some frustrations. A surprising number of tantrums are a result of fatigue and hunger, or of putting a child into a situation that exceeds their capabilities for coping. I wish I could give you one surefire way to help eliminate or eleviate tantrums, but I cant. Like most of the more challenging behaviors of childhood, this to will pass. Ive provided some suggestions to help minimize tantrums. Nothing accelerates the intensity of a tantrum more than a worked up parent. Seeing you lose your cool will only make it more difficult for your toddler to compose himself. Screaming over your toddlers screams will only encourage your toddler to scream louder. A gentle tone of voice assures your toddler that you are in control. Resorting to physical punishment to end a tantrum is a bad idea. You would only be punishing your child for something that they cant control. You also could lose yourself and inflict serious anger on your child. Protect your toddler from dangerous surroundings. Move the child who is physically out of control to a setting that is safer for everyone and everything. Some children can be easily distracted during a tantrum while others only g et more upset. If your child can be distracted, try reading a favorite book or turn on a favorite song. Speak at your toddlers level. It can be very intimidating to a young child to have a bigger person standing over them while they have lost control of themselves. Sitting on the floor will help to even out the situation, making it easier to communicate with your child. Often the best course of action, is no action at all. Continue to go about your business making a very conscious effort to ignore the situation. Eventually your toddler will realize that its just no fun to get worked up when no one is watching. Obviously, ignoring a tantrum is not a feasible option while you are in a store or public place. See below for more information on how to handle a public tantrum. For some children, especially the older ones, a time out provides a much needed cooling off period. This will give them the composure that they need to take control of themselves and the situation. As much as we all dread the thought of a public tantrum (and it happens to the best of us!) they will inevitably happen at one time or another. Here are some tips on how to handle the situation. Avoid public outings when your toddler is especially prone to having a tantrum. A hungry, tired, bored or overextended child is a recipe for disaster. Praise your child for good behavior whenever you come home from a tantrum free trip. While out in public and you can sense a tantrum in the making, try a quick change of subject. If distraction isnt the key, try moving your toddler to a more private place. Pick him up firmly, not violently, and carry him elsewhere. Going outside or to a bathroom should work. If your toddler is used to a time out, give her one now. Just because you are in public doesnt mean you should change your discipline behavior. If you dont follow through with the same discipline as you would in a more private place this will only encourage your child to misbehave in public more often. Your child should be kept on track with firmness, consistency and more importantly, love. Losing the War on Drugs essays America is spending millions of dollars to run ad campaigns with teenage waifs smashing up the kitchen with frying pans, brain fried egg commercials, and other inaccurate and misleading ads put fear into our nations youth and adults alike. One such ad showed a flat line brain scan purportedly hooked up to a drug user. It was later proven that it was hooked up to nothing and most of our nations kids now know it. Seeing the "Land of the Free" turn into a nation that imprisons more of its citizens than any other industrialized nation on earth is neither effective or a good message to send our children. We are building 9 new prisons for every one new university( ). Which do you want built for your children? In this country, we are locked in war we simply cannot win. We strive to protect over 10,000 miles of border, against enemies who are driven by the lure of an obscene really resulted from this war is the overcrowding of prisons, the expansion of law and distrust. If its not obvious already, I am referring to the war on drugs. As time goes on, it becomes more and more evident that the war on drugs is as useless as officials, who use the war as a reelection tool. To study this problem, I visited government web pages for statistics and facts dealing with the war, and was surprised what I found. To most people the fiscal reasons for ending the war are the most convincing. For example, it costs over $30,000 per year to house a prisoner - this does not include processing and legal fees, only the actual prison costs - food, water, electricity and guards ( ). There are over 1.5 million non-violent drug law offenders in prison right now, and this number is increasing daily( ). Both companies are governed by TRA, Telecom Regulatory Authority. TRA UAE has been established according to the UAE federal law, TRA is responsible for the managing of every part of telecommunication information technology industry of UAE. As per a recent press release by TRA, (Telecom Regulatory Authority of UAE) number of mobile subscriptions in UAE growing hurriedly and it is expected to reach 11.7 million by the next year. This indicate that this rate is one of the high mobile penetration rates in the world. During 2008 -2012 the number of internet service subscribers increased 10.5% to over 1.3 million showed the figures. The percentage of internet subscriptions connected by fiber technology increased by 7.8% of customers were upgraded from copper networks to new advanced networks. Even though the journey might have been scary for them, the commander kept himself happy by thinking that if he survives the journey and gets back to Rome he might get a promotion.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The young citizen goes on the trip to â€Å"mend his fortunes†. He goes out to see what England is like and is simply mesmerized by the power of the wilderness. He thinks that there really isn’t a way to fight against it to survive even though you seem powerless.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Marlow contrast the â€Å"conquerors† to the â€Å"colonists† by showing their reasons for exploration. The Romans were out to conquer the world and they were robbing countries of their land. Their strength rose from the weakness of others and they did what they could to get the most land possible. The Romans were lesser men by doing this. The English at least had a reason to go to Africa.

“Night demonstrates the potential of man’s inhumanity to man” Essay

Elie Weisels â€Å"night â€Å" gives us a clear insight into the levels of inhumane behaviour which existed in the times of Nazi Germany from the Germans and even the Jews themselves. Elie also makes clear the great malice shown by some people, during a time where discrimination was a trend created by German propaganda – a situation which made any act of inhumanity acceptable. Nonetheless Night also shows us the way in which people are willing to sacrifice, purely for the survival of others. â€Å"Night† also demonstrates the nature of the human qualities by showing that even in the most inhuman and cruel circumstances, we can survive something like â€Å"hell on earth† Concentration camps showed us inhumanity on a scale previously unimagined. However the setting in place of such inhumane behaviour began some years before with the systematic dehumanising of the Jews by breaking down social structures and relationships and taking away their place in civil society. The novel shows that there is great inhumanity displayed from this personal journey of Elie Wiesel. The Jews were tortured every day for no reason at all other than for the SS officers’ own amusement. The SS officers treated the men as if they were animals, making them fight for food. Women, babies, old, sick, and handicapped were put into the crematoriums as soon as they arrived at the camps. The Germans stripped the Jews to nothing and took away everything close to them, separation from loved ones, isolation, transportation and the ruthless, cold actions towards them in the camps such as starvation and selections of the fittest. They killed people for no reason, with no remorse whatsoever. Tortures, being treated like animals, and being burned alive or killed were all things that led to the Jews feeling as if they were not human. As the treatment of the Jews gets worse, so do their own actions. After their time at Birkenau, the prisoners were in very bad shape. All were starving, but some more than others. At this point, one of the young men kills his own father for his ration of bread and is then promptly surrounded and killed by some of the more disgusted Jews who had seen the crime. While the justice administered by the other Jews is a sign of humanity hanging by a thread in the minds and hearts of the prisoners, the young man who killed his own father signifies as much of a tendency in the opposite direction. While some would argue that the  goal of survival could possibly justify the means, the effect the Nazis are having on the minds of the Jews cannot be ignored. Despite the relenting bleakness and horror of life in the camps, Elie Weisel survives with his emo tional insanity and survival remarkably intact. The critical things that helped people to survive in to camps included human connections, such as friendships and family relationships, hearing and making music and random acts of kindness from strangers. By doing whatever he needed to so he could survive, Wiesel’s identity had truly changed in the concentration camps. Elie survived the concentration camps for nearly two years. Even though he often claims that he wanted to give up, that he wished he would die, he still fought against death. He writes â€Å"our first act as free men was to throw ourselves onto the provisions. We thought only of that. Not of revenge, not of our families. Nothing but bread.† This quote shows that, though Elie has lost his identity so much that he is almost like a wild animal, he has still managed to keep the instinct to survive. This endurance showed that he never was able to fully give up on life. He somehow pushed past the Nazi cruelty to live through malnutrition, torture, and sorrow. Even as his emotions shut down to the point where he could not cry for his dead father, he was shutting down so he could survive the experience of the death camps.
